John & Stacy Dowdall to James Yewell - 195 Acres

On 25 Oct 1792, James Cox surveyed 500 acres for John Dowdall on the waters of Cedar Creek, a branch of Salt River. John and his wife sold 195 acres of this tract to James Yewell on 17 Nov 1796 as shown above. Then they sold 125 acres of it to Jesse Simmons on 30 Sep 1797.

This indenture made this 17th day of November 1796 between John Dowdle and Stasy Dowdle his wife of Washington County of the one part and James Yewell of the County of Woodford of the other part, all of the state of Kentucky. Witnesseth that the said John Dowdle and Stasy Dowdall his wife for and in consideration of the sum of one hundred and forty pounds to them in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof the said John and Stasy Dowdle his wife doth hereby acknowledge, the above said John and Stasy Dowdall his wife hath granted, bargained and sell, alien and confirm unto the said James Yewell and his heirs forever all his right, title and interest of, in and to a certain tract or parcel of land (situate lying and being in the county of Nelson on the waters of Cedar Creek on the south side of the big road that goes from Bullitt Lick up the East fork of Coxes Creek) containing one hundred and ninety five acres of land and bounded as follows. Beginning at a sugar tree and ironwood standing on the south side of the above siad road just above where Mrs. Standerford now lives, thence along the said road N 85 1/2° E 8 poles, N 83 1/2° E 62 poles, N 89° E 60 poles to Quaking ash bush on the north side of the above said road and on the east side of a branch of Cedar Creek, thence up with the meanders of same S 49° E 50 poles, S 74° E 44 poles to black and honey locust and ironwood, thence South 105 poles to black oak, white oak and beech, thence West 238 poles to two white oaks, thence N 70° E 146 poles to the beginning. To have and to hold all and singular the premises above described unto the said James Yewell, his heirs or assigns forever to his and their proper use and behoof, and he said John and Stasy Dowdall the tract of land with the appurtenances unto the said James Yewell and his heirs or assigns from them the said John and Stasy Dowdle and their heirs or assigns and doth hereby grant, bargain and sell the above recited land all our right and title to the said James Yewell, his heirs or assigns in the legal possession of the above described one hundred and ninety five acres of land. In witness whereof the above it being more or less John and Stacy Dowdle his wife hath hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above on the other side written. At a county court held for Nelson County on Tuesday the ninth day of May 1797, this indenture of bargain and sale between John Dowdle and Stacy his wife of the one part and James Yewell of the other part was acknowledged by the said John Dowdle and ordered to be recorded. Teste: Ben Grayson, Clk
