Simon Arnold to School District #9 - 1 Acre

On 31 May 1888, B. H. Blair, James T. Ferguson and John T. Griffin, trustees of School District #9 in western Bullitt County, purchased an acre of ground from Simon and Roberta Arnold for a school site. Located in the Cow Branch hollow, it would become known as the Nichols School by 1912.

This indenture made and entered into this the 31st day of May 1888 by and between Simon Arnold and Roberta Arnold, his wife, of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the first part and B. H. Blair, James T, Ferguson, and John T. Griffin, trustees of school district No. 9 in the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky and their successors of the second part: Witnesseth;

That for and in consideration of the sum of $30 to be paid on or before the 1st day of September 1888, for which amount the said second part have this day executed their note to the party of the first part, bearing interest at 6% per annum from date till paid and a lien is hereby retained on said land to secure the payment thereof. The said first parties hereby grant, bargain, sell and convey unto the said second party and their successors the following described tract of land lying in Bullitt County, Kentucky for the purpose of erecting a school house thereon.

To wit: Beginning at a beech tree in Simon Arnold's line and corner to Hiram Samuels and Thomas Paulley Sr., thence with Simon Arnold's and Hiram Samuels' line in a western direction 90 yards to a stake, thence in a southern direction 53 7/9 yards to a stake, thence in an eastern direction 90 yards to a stake, thence in a northern direction 53 7/9 yards to the beginning containing one acre. To have and to hold the above described tract of land unto the said second party and their successors forever with covenants of general warranty. And the said Roberta Arnold in token of her relinquishment of all right of dower or homestead therein joins in the due execution hereof.
