Mitchell and Wilson's 2000 Acre Tract

On 20 Dec 1784, George Wilson surveyed 2000 acres of land for himself and David Mitchell located in Jefferson County between Cedar Creek and Floyd's Fork. William Fleming would later claim land that encircled their tract on three sides. Their survey and deed are described below.

Survey for David Mitchell and George Wilson 2000 acres of land by virtue of part a treasury warrant No. 89 for 630 on Cedar Creek, a branch of Floyd's Fork. Beginning at two white oaks, dogwood & iron wood standing on the north side of a small branch and 40 poles east from a white oak standing on Froman's waggon road, marked M W 1784 with twelve notches above near a line of Simon Triplet's survey of 2000 acres. Thence North 591 poles to a large white oak, sugar tree & sweet gum, thence East 458 poles to a pop;ar, mulberry and iron wood near a small drain, thence S 3° E 699 poles to a hickory, beech, elm and ash on the side of a ridge, thence West 458 poles to a mulberry, maple & dogwood in a line of Simon Triplet's survey of 2000 acres, thence North with his line 108 poles to his corner two white oaks and ash, thence West 40 poles to the beginning. Patrick Henry Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of an exchanged treasury warrant Number 89 given in exchange for part of warrant number 630, and issued the 15th day of October 1779, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto David Mitchell and George Wilson a certain tract or parcel of land containing 2000 acres by survey bearing date the 20th day of December 1784 lying and being in the county of Jefferson on Cedar Creek, a branch of Floyd's Fork, and bounded as followeth, to wit. Beginning at two white oaks, dogwood & iron wood standing on the north side of a small branch and 40 poles east from a white oak standing on Froman's waggon road, marked N W 1784 with twelve notches above near a line of Simon Triplett's survey of 2000 acres. then North 591 poles to a large white oak, sugar tree & sweet gum, thence East 458 poles to a pop;ar, mulberry and iron wood near a small drain, South 3° East 699 poles to a hickory, beech, elm and ash on the side of a ridge, then West 458 poles to a mulberry, maple & dogwood in a line of Simon Triplett's survey of 2000 acres, then North with his line 108 poles to his corner two white oaks and ash, thence West 40 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to the said David Mitchell and George Wilson, and their heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Patrick Henry Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the lesser seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Richmond on the 2nd day of February in the year of our Lord 1786, and of the Commonwealth the 10th.
