Simon Triplett's 2000 Acre Tract

On 11 Jul 1783, George Wilson surveyed 2000 acres of land for Simon Triplett located in Jefferson County between Cedar Creek and Floyd's Fork, that adjoined Wilson's 564 acre tract on the west and south. This 2000 acre survey and deed are described below.

Surveyed this 11th day of July 1783 for Simon Triplett, by virtue of a treasury warrant No. 4102 and 4103, 2000 acres of land in Jefferson County beginning at a sugar tree and white oak near the knobs about a mile below Sullivan’s Spring and about one mile and a quarter from where Forman’s Wagon Road crosses Cedar Creek, a branch of Floyd’s Fork, bearing from the corner nearly an East course, thence North 640 poles crossing a large branch of Cedar Creek to two by poplars and a white oak near the head of a small drain in a rich flat, thence East 422 poles crossing the same branch mentioned in the last course to two white oaks and an ash on the bank of a small run, thence South 390 poles to a black oak and dogwood standing on the east side of Forman’s road about 40 poles from where said road crosses Cedar Creek, thence East 200 poles crossing Cedar Creek to two white oaks and a red oak on a ridge, thence South 250 poles to a white oak, hickory and elm, thence West 622 poles to the beginning. Patrick Henry Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of part of two land office treasury warrants number 4102 and number 4103, and issued the 20th day of March 1780, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Simon Triplett a certain tract or parcel of land containing 2000 acres by survey bearing date the 11th day of July 1783 lying and being in the county of Jefferson and bounded as followeth, to wit. beginning at a sugar tree and white oak near the knobs about a mile below Sullivan’s Spring and about one mile and a quarter from where Forman’s Wagon Road crosses Cedar Creek, a branch of Floyd’s Fork, bearing from the corner nearly an East course, thence North 640 poles crossing a large branch of Cedar Creek to two by poplars and a white oak near the head of a small drain in a rich flat, thence East 422 poles crossing the same branch mentioned in the last course to two white oaks and an ash on the bank of a small run, thence South 390 poles to a black oak and dogwood standing on the east side of Forman’s road about 40 poles from where said road crosses Cedar Creek, thence East 200 poles crossing Cedar Creek to two white oaks and a red oak on a ridge, thence South 250 poles to a white oak, hickory and elm, thence West 622 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to the said David Mitchell and George Wilson, and their heirs forever.
