The Bullitt County History Museum

Blue Lick Road Bridge Site

Coral Ridge Road parallels the CSX railroad line, running on the west side of the tracks from north of Brooks to Gap in Knob where it ends at Preston Highway. A hundred years ago most of it didn't exist. At that time a traveler would either take the road from Huber's Station around the west side of Coleman's Knob down to Shepherdsville, or he would travel down Blue Lick Road to where it crosses Blue Lick Run and then run parallel on the east side of the tracks until it ends on Preston. Then he would cross the tracks and head on down to Shepherdsville as you can see on this 1907 map.

Today, all that really remains of the latter route is East Blue Lick Road down to the curve where that road turns sharply west, and then Ferguson Lane as far south as it goes. You can see this on the Google map. The marker shows where the bridge crossed the stream. You may zoom in and scroll the map to see the location of Ferguson Lane.

Recently, our museum director was shown the location of where the old iron Blue Lick bridge stood until it was washed out sometime in the 1960's. The picture below was taken at the site. Only the stone foundation remains, and is barely visible.
