On 13 Sep 1797, Elijah Whitaker of Shelby County sold 132 acres of land lying near Cedar Creek, and south of Salt River, to Jesse Simmons. This may have been a part of a 200 acre tract patented to Whitaker.

This indenture made this 13th day of September 1797 between Elijah Whitaker and Sarah Whitaker his wife of Shelby County of the one part and Jesse Simmons of Bullitt County of the other part, both of the state of Kentucky. Witness that said Elijah and Sarah Whitaker his wife for and in consideration of the sum of 79 pounds, 18 shillings to him in hand paid at and before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof the said Elijah and Sarah Whitaker doth hereby acknowledge, the said Elijah and Sarah Whitaker hath granted, bargained and sold, and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, alien and confirm unto the said Jesse Simmons and his heirs and assigns forever all their right, title and interest of in and to a certain tract or parcel of land situate and lying in Bullitt County on the waters of Cedar Creek to begin at a quaken ash standing where the big road crosses a large branch of Cedar Creek, thence S 89° W 60 poles with or in the big road and continuing with the big road S 83 1/2° W 62 poles, S 85 1/2° W 40 poles, N 78° W 30 poles, S 71° W 8 poles, N 50° W 30, N 44° W 22 poles to a small cedar in a glade, thence N 23 1/2° E 27 poles to a white oak, N 60° W 169 poles, N 20° W 14 poles to the above said large branch of Cedar Creek, thence continuing with and binding on the different meanders of the said creek to the beginning containing 132 acres of land more or less to have and to hold the above mentioned land with all its profits from ... the said Elijah and Sarah Whitaker, their heirs or assigns unto the above said Jesse Simmons and his heirs or assigns to their proper use and behoof and will forever defend the above said Jesse Simmons' 132 acres of land to his heirs or assigns against me, my heirs or assigns and against all claims whatsoever that may or shall be set up will forever defend as witness our hands and seals the day and year on the other side written. At a court held for Shelby County at the courthouse on Tuesday the 17th day of October 1797, this indenture was acknowledged by the within named Elijah Whitaker and Sarah his wife to be their act and deed, the said Sarah being privily examined as the law directs and relinquished her right of dower therein and ordered to be recorded and certified. I do hereby certify that a copy of the within deed has been recorded in my office. Teste: James Craig, Clerk.
