1834 Shepherdsville Town Trustees Election

We discovered in Bullitt County Deed Book H, pages 91-92, the following election results.

The candidates are listed below. The capital letter preceding each name is used to identify him in the voting chart below. Note the one mistake the clerk made.

We have attempted to duplicate the chart as it was written in the deed book. It appears that each voter announced his choices, and the election clerk kept a running total as each voter's choices were listed.

Polls of an election held at the court house in Shepherdsville on Monday the fourth day of August 1834 to elect and choose five suitible persons to act as trustees for the town of Shepherdsville for the year commencing on this day, to-wit.

I Thomas W. Riley, clerk of the Board of Trustees for the town of Shepherdsville do certify that on the 4 day of August 1834 I held an election at the courthouse in Shepherdsville for the purpose of choosing five fit persons to act as trustees for the said town until their successors shall be elected and qualified, of which the foregoing is a true poll by which it appears that Noah C. Summers, Henry C. M. Cartmell, Rufus K. Summers, William R. Grigsby and Robert F. Samuels have the highest number of votes, are declared duly elected. Given under my hand this 4th day of August 1834.
