1915 Roads

The following roads are described in King's Official Route Guide - A Tour Book of the Principal Automobile Routes in the States of Ohio and Kentucky, published by Sidney J. King [Chicago, 1915, pages 474-5].

The road from Louisville to Shepherdsville, and then on to Boston, Kentucky was described as follows.

Louisville, Ky., to Shepherdsville, Ky., 20.8 miles

Good pike for first few miles; balance good gravel with numerous hogbacks or water breaks.
0.0	Leave the Court House, corner of Jefferson & Fifth Sts.; go east on Jefferson St. to
1.0	Fourth St.; turn right (south)
1.5	Turn left on Ormsby Ave.
1.8	Jog right on First St. and turn left
2.1	Turn right (south) on Preston St., following trolley out of town
2.5	Cross R. R.
3.2	City Limits
3.5	Pass pike on left and cemetery on right
4.3	Cross R. R., running straight ahead, passing Asterburn Club Grounds on left
5.5	Go through crossroads (road on left leads to the Newberg Road)
6.5	Pass road on left, which goes to Eaglewood. Keep straight ahead on direct road, crossing numerous small bridges in next 3 miles
9.4	Go through crossroads (Robb's Lane). Continue to follow trolley straight into
9.5	Okalona, where trolley ends
11.0	Avoid dirt road on left and shortly
11.8	Avoid dirt road on right
12.8	Pass good macadam road on left, which goes to Mt. Washington
13.0	Pass dirt road on right. Slow down for
13.5	Sharp turn with road
13.6	Pass old toll house on left
14.2	Turn sharp right, running up grade
14.3	Turn sharp right through
14.5	Echo Hills. Slow down for
15.1	Sharp turn with road
16.6	Pass road on left, running down grade across creek
17.8	Cross iron bridge
18.2	Pass road on left
18.7	Turn right; cross R. R. and immediately turn left along R. R. to
20.0	"Gap in the Knob"
20.2	Pass Bullitt Co. Fair Grounds on right. Continue straight ahead to Court House on left
20.8	Shepherdsville, Ky. (Road straight ahead here across bridge goes to Boston, Hodgenville and Lincoln Farm, or Bardstown and New Haven)

Stretches of good gravel and good dirt; fair in dry weather.
0.0	Leave the Court House; go south, following main road out of town
0.1	Cross long iron bridge and at end of bridge turn left, avoiding road on right. Go under R. R.
0.3	Turn right, passing Salt River Station on right. Go straight ahead on main traveled road, avoiding all branch roads on right and left
2.1	Pass school on left
2.7	Pass dirt road on left and shortly
3.0	Pass dirt road on right
3.3	Cross small bridge
3.4	Pass church and road on left
3.7	Cross R. R. at Bardstown Junction
3.9	Cross R. R.
4.2	Cross R. R. and iron bridge
4.3	Avoid roads on left
6.4	Cross small bridge; continue to forks
6.9	Take right fork
7.2	Cross iron bridge and shortly cross small wooden bridge, running into
7.7	Belmont - R. R. just ahead; just before reaching store on left, turn left along R. R. on right. Continue on main direct road to end of road
8.0	Turn right and take next
8.1	Turn left; follow curving road
8.3	Cross creek
8.4	Cross creek
9.4	Turn left, then right
10.2	Pass road on left; cross small bridge
11.4	Cross iron bridge
11.8	Turn right
12.0	Pass road on left. Cross R. R. and take next
12.2	Turn left in branch road
12.9	Pass road on right; continue to end of road
13.0	Turn right, then left, passing brick church on right. Continue straight ahead to forks
13.1	Take left fork. Cross R. R. at
13.2	Lebanon Junction (station on right). Continue to end of road
13.4	Turn left; to 4 corners
13.6	Turn right; along woods right
13.7	Turn right to
15.0	Crossroads. Turn right
15.4	Cross small bridge
16.5	Cross creek. Continue to end of road
17.5	Turn left to next
17.6	Turn right. Shortly
17.9	Cross small bridge
18.6	Turn left to next
18.7	Turn right
18.9	Pass road on right. Continue on main direct road to end of road
19.0	Turn right: pass blacksmith shop on right; turn left around mill to L. & N. Station on left of
19.2	Boston, Ky. (Cross R. R. for Hodgenville, Elizabethtown and Louisville)

On page 471 is a description of the road from Louisville to Bardstown that passes through Mt. Washington. The Bullitt County section is listed below.
