Henry Crist's 200 Acre Survey near Cox's Creek

On 19 Sep 1798, Henry Crist surveyed a 200 acre tract for himself located near Cox's Creek. He obtained a deed to it on 11 Jun 1801. As you can see from the survey description, this tract was located adjoining those of Thomas Rowland, Mitchell and Wilson, Gabriel Cox, and William Shannon. We have attempted to plot this tract on a Google map below, along with a tract downstream patented in the names of David Mitchell and George Wilson, and Gabriel Cox.

Surveyed for Henry Crist, assignee of James Cox, assignee of John Bennett, 200 acres of land in Bullitt County by virtue of part of a treasury warrant number 17,572 lying on the waters of Cox's Creek adjoining the land of Thomas Rowland, Mitchell and Wilson, Gabriel Cox, and William Shannon. Beginning at two beeches and small sugar tree on the south bank of the East Fork of said creek and corner to said Shannon, thence with his line, N 40 W 158 poles to Gabriel Cox's line, thence with the same, S 78 W 212 poles to an ash and elm sapling in Mitchell & Wilson's line, thence with the same S 12 E 135 poles to their corner in Rowland's line, thence N 78 E 284 poles to the beginning. The within survey is founded upon an entry made Feby ?? 1785. The warrant sent to the registor's office. (signed) James Cox, 22 Nov 1799.

James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of part of a land office treasury warrant number 17,572 and entered the 10th day of February 1785, there is granted by that said Commonwealth unto Henry Crist a certain tract or parcel of land containing 200 acres by survey bearing date the 19th day of September 1798, lying and being in the county of Bullitt on the waters of Cox's creek adjoining the land of Thomas Rowland, Mitchell & Wilson, Gabriel Cox, and William Shannon, and bounded as followeth, to wit. Beginning at two beeches and small sugar tree on the south bank of the east fork of said creek and corner to said Shannon, thence with his line, North 40° West 158 poles to Gabriel Cox's line, thence with the same, South 78° West 212 poles to an ash and elm sapling in Mitchell & Wilson's line, thence with the same South 12° East 135 poles to their corner in Rowland's line, thence North 78° East 284 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Henry Crist and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the eleventh day of June in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and one, and of the Commonwealth the tenth.
