On 25 Nov 1797, James Shanks surveyed a 650 acre tract on the waters of Cedar Creek for William Alexander who obtained his deed to the land on 10 Jun 1799. This tract lay adjacent to the Tilford settlement and preemption.

Surveyed for William Alexander 650 acres of land in Bullitt County by virtue of parts of a treasury warrant No. __, entered June the 9th 1781, on the waters of Cedar Creek, Beginning at the southeasterly corner of Tilford's settlement and preemption at two sugar trees and a red oak, thence with Tilford's line South 69° West 400 poles to an elm and hickory, thence with another of Tilford's lines North 21° West 100 poles to Tillin's and Baker's corner of white oak and walnut, thence with Baker's line South 278 poles to a stake in said line, thence East 410 poles to a stake on a knob in Troutman's survey, thence North 328 poles to the beginning. James Garrard Esquire, governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of a treasury warrant number __ there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto the heirs of William Alexander a certain tract or parcel of land containing 650 acres by survey bearing date the 25th day of November 1797, lying and being in the county of Bullitt on the waters of Cedar Creek and bounded as followeth, to wit. Beginning at the southeasterly corner of Tilford's settlement and preemption at two sugar trees and red oak, thence with Tilford's line South 69° West 400 poles to an elm and hickory, thence with another of Tilford's lines North 21° West 100 poles to Tillin's line and Baker's corner, white oak and walnut, thence with Baker's line South 278 poles to a stake in said line, thence East 410 poles to a stake on a knob in Troutman's survey, thence North 328 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances to have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said heirs of William Alexander and their heirs forever. In witness whereof the said James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the 10th day of June in the year of our Lord 1799, and of the Commonwealth the 8th.
