Samuel Smyth's 200 Acre Tract

On 3 Aug 1792, Samuel Smyth surveyed 200 acres along Wilson's Creek for himself, as shown below. This land adjoined his preemption. He received his deed to the land on 8 Mar 1796.


Survey

Surveyed for Sam Smyth 200 acres of land in Nelson County by virtue of part of a treasury warrant No. 7947 on the waters of Wilson's Creek and joining said Smyth's preemption on the north beginning at a sugar tree and white oak on said Smyth's preemption line running thence North 59° East 220 poles to two white oaks and a beech, thence North 26° West 270 poles to a poplar and beech on the west bank of the run, thence North 59° East 20 poles to a beech and dogwood on the side of a knob, thence North 30° West 48 poles to two sycamores on the west bank of the run, thence South 60° West 74 poles to two white oaks on the east side of a pine knob, thence South 30° East 48 poles to two white oaks on the side of a knob, thence South 59° West 36 poles to two white oaks on the top of a knob, thence North 26° W 240 poles to a white oak and beech corner to said Smyth's survey of 150 acres, thence South 59° West 130 poles with said line 75 poles to his corner to a white oak, thence South 30° East 34 poles to the beginning. Deed

Isaac Shelby Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of part of a land office treasury warrant No. 7347, there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Samuel Smyth a certain tract or parcel of land containing 200 acres by survey bearing date the 3rd day of August 1792, lying and being in Nelson County on the waters of Wilson's Creek and adjoining said Smyth's preemption on the north and bounded as followeth, to wit.

Beginning at a sugar tree and white oak on said Smyth's preemption line running thence North 59° East 220 poles to two white oaks and a beech, thence North 26° West 270 poles to a poplar and beech on the west bank of the run, thence North 59° East 20 poles to a beech and dogwood on the side of a knob, thence North 30° West 48 poles to two sycamores on the west bank of the run, thence South 60° West 74 poles to two white oaks on the east side of a pine knob, thence South 30° East 48 poles to two white oaks on the side of a knob, thence South 59° West 36 poles to two white oaks on the top of a knob, thence North 26° W 240 poles to a white oak and beech corner to said Smyth's survey of 150 acres, thence South 59° West 130 poles with said line 75 poles to his corner to a white oak, thence South 30° East 34 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Samuel Smyth and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said Isaac Shelby Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the 8th day of March in the year of our Lord 1796, and of the Commonwealth the fourth.
