In 1827 the Kentucky General Assembly passed an act that adjusted the election of trustees for Mount Vernon (Mt. Washington), and also provided for a local tax. We have transcribed this act below.

Chap. 16.
An act further to regulate the powers of the trustees of the town of Mount Vernon, in Bullitt County, and for other purposes.
Sec. 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, That the elections for the trustees of the town of Mount Vernon, in Bullitt County, shall hereafter be holden on the second Monday in August, in each year, at the house of Abraham Job, in said town, instead of the time heretofore prescribed by law; and that in case of vacancies by death, resignation or otherwise, that the board of trustees so elected, shall have power to elect and are hereby directed forthwith to elect and fill said vacancies.
Sec. 2. Be it further enacted, That said trustees shall have power to levy upon the holders of property in said town, an ad valorem taxation, not exceeding thirty-seven and a half cents upon each hundred dollars worth of property, to be appropriated as said trustees may deem necessary, for the good and interest of said town.
