Kinnison and Jones to Joel Vaughn - 636 Acres

In this deed, Alonzo C. Kinnison and his mother Rebecca Jones sold 636 acres on the waters of Knob Creek to Joel Vaughn on 15 Oct 1833, based on an earlier bond between Vaughn and Alonzo's father John R. Kinnison. The land had been sold to Kinnison by Henry Crist and John Myers on 1 Oct 1833.

This indenture made this 15th day of October 1833 between Alonzo C. Kinnison and Elizabeth, his wife and John M. Jones and Rebecca, his wife, late Rebecca Kinnison, widow and relict of John R. Kennison dec'd of the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky of the one part and Joel Vaughn of the same county and state of the other part.

Witnesseth that the said Alonzo C Kinnison and Elizabeth his wife, and Rebecca Jones for and in consideration of the sum of $2000 to the said John R. Kinnison in his lifetime, and to the said Alonzo C. Kinnison in hand paid, have granted, bargained, and sold and by these presents do grant, bargain and sell, alien, release, convey and confirm unto the said Joel Vaughn a certain tract or parcel of land containing 636 acres with a reservation hereafter mentioned, situate lying and being on Knob Creek in the county and state aforesaid, and bounded as follows, to wit.

Beginning at a large beech on the east bank of Knob Creek, thence West 60 poles to a beech and hickory at the foot of a knob, crossing knob creek at 16 poles, thence South 20° West 296 poles to four sugar trees, passing a corner of two sugar trees and two beech saplings on the north side of Knob Creek at 216 poles, thence East 50 poles to a black walnut in a deep hollow, thence South 42° East 120 poles to a beech, hickory and poplar at the head of the hollow, thence down the draft North 58° East 20 poles to two beeches, thence North 73° East 84 poles to a white walnut and two sugar trees, North 48° East 52 poles to a sugar tree, buckeye and hackberry at a point of a ridge, thence up a branch South 34° East 38 poles to a beech, thence South 74° East 104 poles to two sugar tree saplings, thence South 63° East 40 poles to a blue ash and sugar tree, thence South 78° East 40 poles to two sugar trees, thence North 82° East 26 poles to a white walnut and lynn in a deep hollow one on each side of a drain, thence North 35° East 39 poles to a forked lynn, beech, and dogwood saplings in the head of a hollow on the north side of a ridge, thence North 29° West 322 poles to a beech, dogwood and hickory saplings on a high ridge in a line of Shepherd's 1000 acre survey and also a corner to said Shepherd's 300 acre survey, West 91 poles to three beeches and two sugar trees and dogwood southwestwardly corner of said 1000 acres, thence with another line thereof North 68 poles to a sugar tree and lynn in said line, thence West 94 poles to the beginning, reserving nevertheless out of said boundary 120 acres laid off for Thomas Joyce and sold to said Joyce previous t othe sale to said Vaughn, and expressly reserved in the bond to said Joel Vaughn.

To have, and to hold the said, tract or parcel of land and appurtenances hereby conveyed with the reservations aforesaid to him, the said Joel Vaughn, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns, and to his and their only proper use, benefit and behoof forever. And they said Alonzo C. Kinnison and Elizabeth his wife covenant and agree to, and with the said Joel Vaughn that they will, and their heirs shall warrant and forever defend the said tract or parcel of land hereby conveyed and intended to be conveyed with all the appurtenances onto the said, Joel Vaughn, his heirs, executors, administrators, and assigns from the claim or claims of all and every person or persons claiming or to claim the same. And they said John M. Jones and Rebecca his wife join in this convenience for the purpose of relinquishing, and she, said Rebecca, hereby relinquishes her right of dower in and to the said tract of land and appurtenances unto him, said Joel Vaughn, his heirs and assigns forever. In testimony whereof the said Alonzo C. Kinnison and Elizabeth, his wife and John M. Jones and Rebecca his wife hereto set their hands and seals on the day and year before written. The true amount of consideration paid by me for the within and foregoing land is $1310.50. Witness my hand and seal this 1st day of January 1835. (signed) Joel [his x mark] Vaughn
