Neal Hornbeck to John Hornbeck - 255 Acres

In 1800, Neal (Cornelius) Hornbeck sold his share (255 acres) of the family land to his brother John Hornbeck as shown in the transcription below. This portion of the Hornbeck land lay in the southwest part of the original Edward Williams settlement and preemption.


Bullitt County Deed Book A, Pages 201-202

This indenture made this 22nd day of May in the year, 1800 between Neal Hornbeck of the county of Bullitt and State of Kentucky of the one part, and John Hornbeck of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $300 to the said, Neal Hornback in hand paid by the said, John Hornbeck, at or before the sealing and delivery of these presents, the receipt whereof his doth hereby acknowledge, and thereof doth release, acquit and discharge the said John Hornbeck, his heirs, executors and administrators by these presents. He the said Neale Hornbeck hath bargained and sold and by these presents doth bargain and sell unto the said John Hornbeck, his heirs and assigns a certain parcel or tract of land situated, lying and being in the county of Bullitt and state of Kentucky, being a part of that tract of land that Isaac Hornbeck purchased of Edward Williams, which tract of land the said Isaac Hornbeck did in his last will and testament give and bequeath to the said Neal Hornbeck and bounded as follows, to wit.

Begin at Edward Williams' southwest corner of his settlement and preemption at a large poplar tree, thence East 176 poles to an ash and elm, thence North 231 poles to a hickory, a gum and maple, thence West 176 poles to a white oak and ash, thence South 231 poles to the beginning to include 255 acres of land, to hold the same hereby granted and conveyed all and singular the premises, part and parcel thereof with their and every of their appurtenances unto the said John Hornbeck, his heirs and assigns for the only proper use and behoof of him the said John Hornbeck. And he the said Neale Hornbeck doth forever warrant and defend the said land from the claim of him, his heirs, executors and administrators unto the said John Hornbeck, his heirs, executors and and administrators and assigns forever. In witness whereof he hath hereunto set hand and affixed his seal the day and year above written. (signed) Neal Hornbeck. Signed, sealed and delivered in the presence of us: Samuel Hornbeck, Daniel Westfall, Sol. Hornbeck.

Bullitt County Sct. I Thomas Speed, clerk of the monthly court for the county aforesaid, do certify that the within named Neale Hornbeck acknowledged this indenture to be his act and deed before me in my office on the 2nd day of April 1801. (signed) Thomas Speed.
