In 1843, a group of men, including Abraham Chappell, William F. Chappell, John W. Goheen, William Stibbins, James Arnold and Richard Skinner, purchased a half share (1000 acres) of Robert Sanford's 2000 acre patent from Nathaniel Pope who was living in Illinois at the time. We have not yet determined how Pope obtained this land.
According to the deed shown below, George W. Miles obtained John W. Goheen's share, and Abraham Chappell obtained William F. Chappell's share. Then in 1845, 314 acres of the tract was deeded to William Stibbins by the others, as shown below.

This indenture made and entered into the 16th day of May 1845 by and between Abram Chappell, James Arnold, George W. Miles, and Richard Skinner of the county of Bullitt, and state of Kentucky of the one part, and William Stibbins of the county and state aforesaid of the other part. Witnesseth, and is as followeth: Whereas the said Chappell, Arnold, Stibbins and Skinner, and one John W. Goheen and William F. Chappell purchased jointly of Nathaniel Pope of the State of Illinois 1000 acres of land lying in said county of Bullitt on the waters of Salt River, being the one undivided half of Robert Sandford's 2000 acre survey; and whereas the said George W. Miles took the place and benefit of John W. Goheen and his purchase; and said Abram Chappell took the place of said William F. Chappell and his purchase; and whereas the said Stibbins paid to the said Pope the full price of 307 acres of said 1000 acres at one dollar per acre; and whereas the said Stibbins has paid the said Miles the sum of $7.50 in consideration of seven acres and a half of said Miles' 98 acres, which referred to in the deed of quit claim this day made by the said Chappell, Arnold, Stibbins and Skinner to the said Miles; now this indenture witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $307 so paid by the said Stibbins to the said Pope as aforesaid, and the further consideration of the deed of quit claim this day signed by the said Stibbins to the said Chappell, Arnold, Miles and Skinner of their respective parts of the said 1000 acres so purchased of the said Pope as aforesaid, and the said Miles for himself and his heirs in consideration of the $7.50 to him in hand paid by the said Stibbins, the receipt whereof is hereby acknowledged by the said Chappell, Arnold, Skinner and Miles of the so paid by said Stibbins to said Pope and by said Miles of the money so paid him individually by said Stibbins, hath this day granted, bargained, sold and conveyed and confirmed, and by these presents doth grant, bargain, sell, enfeoff, convey and confirm unto him the said Stibbins, his heirs and assigns forever all that part of said 1000 acres purchased as aforesaid and bounded as followeth, to wit.
Beginning at a stone in Ballard Chappell's spring branch, where the north line of Jacob Myers' 1200 acre survey crosses the same and running thence with James Arnold's line down the branch N 18° W 23 poles to a stone in the Cedar Point Branch, thence N 16° E 285 poles to a dogwood and three hickories standing on both sides of a road, thence with the road S 71 1/2° E 14 poles, N 71° E 32 poles, N 59° E 30 poles, then N 51° E 30 poles to a sugar tree and two beeches on both sides of a road, thence S 7° W 238 poles to two ashes, a limn and a dogwood on a rocky drain in the north line of the original 2000 acres survey, thence with the same S 30 1/4° W 13 poles to a stake in James Chappell's line, thence with his line S 55° W 100 poles to two sugar trees at a branch, thence S 10° W 54 poles to an elm, thence South 43° E 26 poles to a beech and walnut, S 39° W 26 poles to a stake in the original line of said 2000 acre survey, thence with the same N 40° W 177 poles to the intersection with the north line of said 1200 acre survey, and with the same N 54° E 26 poles to the beginning.
And the said Miles for himself and heirs as aforesaid doth grant, bargain, sell and convey to him the said Stibbins, his heirs &c all that tract of land lying in the 98 acre deeded as aforesaid this day by the parties aforesaid and bounded as followeth, to wit.
Beginning at a beech stump and sugar tree in a road on the knobs, corner to said Stibbins, thence S 7° W 238 poles to a dogwood, sugar tree, two ashes and a hickory on the deep side of a drain in said Stibbins' line and corner to his land as run off by Isaac M. Brooks, thence S35° E 16 poles to a dogwood on the side of a drain, the corner first agreed upon by the parties in Myers line, thence N 4°17' E 250 poles 6 links to the beginning, to him the said Stibbins, his heirs and assigns forever to have and to hold the same with all and singular the appurtenances thereunto belonging or in any wise appertaining.
And the said Chappell, Arnold, Skinner and Miles further covenants to and with the said Stibbins that they will and their heirs shall forever warrant and defend the title of said land against the claim of all and every person claiming or to claim in under by or through them, but against the claim or claims no other peson whatever. In testimony whereof the said parties have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year above written. John W. Goheen and Rebecca Ann his wife and William Chappell and Eliza Ann his wife hereby join in this conveyance to its full extent and legal meaning. (signed by all parties)
