In 1842, George W. Miles obtained 3 tracts from John Goheen including the 98 acres Goheen had obtained from Nathaniel Pope. Read more about this on another page.
Bullitt County Deed Book K, Pages 9-10
This indenture may this 14th day of September, and the year of our Lord, 1842 between John W. Goheen and Rebecca Jane Goheen, his wife of Bullitt County, Kentucky, of one part and George W. Miles of the same place of the other part. Witnesseth that the said John W. Goheen and wife for and in consideration of the sum of $750 to them paid and secured to be paid as follows: $173 in hand paid and the notes of said Miles this day executed to said Goheen for the amounts and payable as follows, viz. $226.51 due and on the 25th day of December 1842, $50 to be paid Nathaniel Pope and interest and costs, $150.24 1/2 due and payable on the 15th day of April 1843, and $150.24 1/2 due and payable on the 10th day of March 1844, have sold and by these presents they said Goheen and wife do sell and convey unto him the said George W. Miles and to his heirs and assigns forever the following tracts or parcels of land situate on the north side of Salt River in the knobs on the road leading from Shepherdsville, Bullitt County to Keys Ferry on Salt River, and one tact thereof contains 122 acres more or less and is bounded as follows to wit.
Beginning at two white oaks and a beech trees, running thence North 44° W 244 poles to three beech trees, thence S 53° W 60 poles to a sassafras and dogwood, thence S 35° E 244 poles to the beginning in Bullitt County, being the same land conveyed by Owen Goldsmith and wife to said Goheen by deed dated 24th October 1839, recorded in Bullitt County Court office in Deed Book J, page 232.
Also another tract conveyed to said Goheen by said Goldsmith by deed dated the 9 September 1841 and containing 30 acres more or less and recorded in same office in same deed book page 533 which land isin said county of Bullitt and bounded as follows to wit.
Beginning at a beech and sugar trees in a line of Myers' 1200 acres survey, corner to James Chappell, thence with Myers' old line N 54° E 55 poles to a poplar and three beech trees, thence S. 57° E 19 poles to three sugar trees and white oak bush, thence S 29° W 111 poles to three hickories, thence S 24° W 41 poles to two dogwoods, thence S 14° E 14 poles to a hickory, thence S 12° W 22 poles to two hickories, thence N 35° W 112 poles to the beginning.
Also a tract of 98 acres of land purchased by said Goheen from Nathaniel Pope and which tract of 98 acres covers and interferes in part with the other lands herein before bounded to the extent and quantity of about 19 acres by said interference, and which land viz the 98 acres is meted and bounded as set forth and described in a connected plat of the lands sold by said N. Pope to said Goheen, Chappell, &c, and which said 98 acres of land said Pope is hereby directed to convey by quit claim or whatever title he is bound to convey to me, unto him said George W. Miles he said, Miles having agreed to pay for the balance or half the purchase money due by me to Pope for the same. Together with all and singular the appurtenances to the said three tracts of land aforesaid belonging or in any wise appertaining. It is distinctly understood and agreed by the parties hereto that for the tracts of 122 acres and 30 acres said Goheen makes to said Miles a title by this his deed in fee simple with general warranty. And for the 98 acres purchased of Pope, a quit claim title only without warranty.
To have and to hold the said three tracts of land and appurtenances aforesaid unto him the said George W. Miles and to his heirs or assigns forever. And the said John W. Goheen and wife do hereby covenant and agree to and with the said George W. Miles and his heirs or assigns that they the said Goheen and wife will and their heirs, executors and administrators shall warrant and forever defend to the said two tracts of 122 and 30 acres unto him the said Miles and to his heirs or assigns against the claims of them the said Goheen and wife, and their heirs and assigns and against the claims of all other persons whatever. And as to the other tract of 98 acres the said Goheen and wife convey the same by deed of quit claim only against themselves and heirs and all persons claiming under them, without being responsible in any event whatever for loss of the same; and they oblige themselves hereby with said Miles that said N. Pope shall convey said 98 acres of land to him, said Miles agreeably to his bond to him Goheen when siad land is paid for by Miles to Pope on proper notice to Pope for said title. And is agreed by the parties hereto that the said Goheen shall release a lien on the lands here conveyed for said purchase money due, and which lien is hereby allowed by said Miles to said Goheen for the same, the price given for the 122 and 30 acres is $600. In testimony whereof the said John W. Goheen and Rebecca Jane Goheen his wife, and said George W. Miles have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and date first herein written.
