The following information was on page 46 of The Franklin Farmer, Volume III, published in Lexington KY, in 1839-40. It describes an event held at the Paroquette Springs in 1839, and identifies many of the farmers who participated.
The Bullitt County Agricultural Society held their first Annual Fair, at the Paroquette Springs, (at Mr. Colmesnil's) on Friday and Saturday, the 30th and 31st days of August, 1839, when the following premiums and certificates were awarded by the judges.
CATTLE.
To John Anderson, for the best aged bull, Duke, a silver cup, value $10. No competition.
No two year old bulls exhibited.
To Humphrey Simmons, for the best yearling bull, Pulaski, a silver cup, value $10.
To David Caswell, for the 2d best do., certificate.
To Jefferson Boswell. for the best sucking bull calf, Oliver, silver cup. value $10. No competition.
To Robert M. Smith for the best aged cow, Zoe, a silver cup, value $10.
To John C. Shanklin, 2d best do., Red Rose, certificate.
To Preston N. Hornbeck, best 2 year old heifer, a silver cup, value $10.
To Humphrey Simmons, for 2d best do., Caroline, certificate.
To Samuel Burks, for best yearling heifer, Margaret Ann, a silver cup, value $10.
To John C. Shanklin 2d best do., Phillis, certificate.
To John C. Shanklin, best sucking heifer calf, silver cup, value $10. No competition.
HOGS.
To Joseph R. Murray, for the best pair of hogs, Berkshires, plate, value $5. Mr. Philip Speed, of Jefferson, exhibited one hog only, but the bye-laws requiring a pair, he could not be considered a competitor and withdrew his stock.
