David L. Brooks - 1869 Last Will & Testament

David Lawson Brooks wrote his will on 9 May 1869, and it was recorded 8 days later. He left his home farm to his son Samuel David Brooks, as shown below.

In the name of God, Amen. I David L. Brooks of the County of Bullitt & State of Kentucky, being of sound mind and memory, do hereby make this my last will and testament, revoking all other former wills if any, to-wit.

It is my will and wish that my son Samuel D. Brooks shall have the the 222 acres and 68 poles, the same conveyed to me by Solomon Neill and recorded in Deed Book H, page 347. To have and to hold the same for his own proper use forever, and he is to keep the place in proper repairs from the proceeds of the same.

It is my further wish and desire that the 76 1/2 acres purchased by me of W. B. M. Brooks recorded in Deed Book O, page 567 shall go in fee simple to my daughters jointly, to have and to hold the same for their use forever.

In testimony whereof I have here unto set my hand and seal May 9th 1869. (signed) D. L. Brooks. Attest: H Clay Crist, William Sheridan.

State of Kentucky, Bullitt County, Sct. I R. J. Meyler, clerk of the Bullitt County Court, certify that on the 17th day of May 1869 the foregoing last will and testament of David L. Brooks was produced in open court and proved by the oaths of William Sheridan and H. C. Crist, subscribing witnesses thereto to be the last will and testament of David L. Brooks dec'd in due form of law and being fully proven, ordered to be recorded which I have truly done this 15th day June 1869. (signed) R. J. Meyler, clerk
