We continue the Bullitt County 1850 census written by Mrs. W. V. Mathis, Wallace A. McKay and W. C. Barrickman. Betty Darnell shared this in The Pioneer News on 16 Dec 1992.
These records have been briefly compared to images of the census pages, and occasional additions or corrections have been made. Those changes we consider significant are noted with red print. Also, the census dwelling house number and family number according to visitation has been added, like this: [1/1].

"Mudd"
These notes on this family are not connected, as the necessary information is lacking, but are presented here in the hope that they may be helpful to the Mudd descendants in tracing their ancestry.
It is probable that Thomas MUDD, born 1647, who came from "the British Isles" (Ireland?) to Maryland about 1680, was the immigrant ancestor of the family in Kentucky.
James MUDD, who was born probably in Maryland in 1780, died in Alabama in 1847. He married in Jefferson Co., Ky., in 1816, Sarah SWEARINGEN, daughter of Abijah and Susan SWEARINGEN; Abijah was a son of Charles SWEARINGEN, a colonel in the Revolution. In 1815 James Mudd owned land in Jefferson County; he moved to Alabama in 1817, and later sent his son to Bardstown to be educated in St. Joseph's College.
Nichols MUDD, born 1772 in Maryland, died in Washington Co., Ky., 1823. He lived in Montgomery Co., Md. in 1793, from whence came so many of the pioneer settlers of Nelson, Washington and Bullitt counties. He married three times, (1) in Washington Co., Ky., 1800 to Eleanor BURCH, daughter of ?? BURCH and Ann SPINK; (2) in Washington Co., 1803 to Eleanor FERGUSON; and (3) at Bardstown, 1811 to Ann SEMMES, widow of Ignatious SEMMES.
John Thomas MUDD, born in Maryland, 1795, died in Nelson Co., Ky., after 1860; heillaried in Nelson County, 1818, Ann Ellen QUEEN, daughter of James and Elizabeth BOONE QUEEN.
Helen MUDD, born in Maryland, came to Kentucky with her parents; she married David HIGGINS, who was born in Mercer Co., Ky., 1795, and who died in Hendricks Co., Ind., in 1851. Their children, David, Michael (born 1823), Eliza Ann, John A., Helen, Nancy, Mary Jane and Daniel MUDD.
David H. MUDD born 1800, died at Jeffersonville, Ind., 1882; married 1818, in Nelson Co., Ky., Marie (CANTOR ?); they had a daughter Sarah, and also a daughter Mary, who married Wm. COWDEN in Jefferson Co., Ky., in 1841.
Kitty MUDD married 1834, in Ky., Leonard ALLY.
Rebecca MUDD married 1820, Nelson Co., Ky., Edw. D. MARR.
Elizabeth MUDD, married about 1820, Washington Co., Ky., to Thomas SPENCE.
Nancy MUDD, married 1813, Washington Co., Ky., John HOSKINS.
Joseph Patrick MUDD, born Ky., 1807, died Richmond, Texas, 1849; married 1832, Bardstown, Ky., to Rosalia A. EDELEN.
Henry Luke MUDD, born Lebanon, Ky., 1809, died near New Haven, Nelson Co., married (1) 1880, Julia SPALDING.
A "History of the Mudd Family" was begun by the Rev. Father L.J. Kenny at St. Louis University in 1928. Dr. Richard D. Mudd of Saginaw, Mich., is assisting in compiling this history, which he hopes can be published this year. He has written to the "Who Was Who" writers, asking their assistance and that of The Pioneer News in locating any descendants of the MUDDS named above, or securing any information concerning them. (The Mudd Family of the United States was published by Dr. Richard Mudd in 1951.)
The Bullitt County census of 1850 lists the following MUDDS:
