We continue the Bullitt County 1850 census written by Mrs. W. V. Mathis, Wallace A. McKay and W. C. Barrickman. Betty Darnell shared this in The Pioneer News on 14 Sep 1992.
These records have been briefly compared to images of the census pages, and occasional additions or corrections have been made. Those changes we consider significant are noted with red print. Also, the census dwelling house number and family number according to visitation has been added, like this: [1/1].

Brashear
Originally “BRASSIEUR," a family of French Huguenot descent, forced by religious persecution to leave France and settle in England.
Robert and Benjamin, sons of Robert BRASHEAR, Sr., emigrated to Virginia before 1636. Later they settled in Calvert County, Maryland. Benjamin died 1663, leaving his widow an their children Robert, Benjamin, John, Mary, Ann, Susanna, Martha, and Elizabeth. Among their neighbors in Maryland were the BEALL, EDMONSTONE, and MAGRUDER families, whose descendants intermarried with the BRASHEARs. Robert BRASHEAR's sons, Benjamin and Samuel, married sisters, daughters of William and Dorothy CAGER JONES. Benjamin and Mary JONES BRASHEAR were the parents of Thomas, Benjamin, John, Sarah,Eleanor, Mary, Ann, Elizabeth; and William. Samuel and Ann JONES BRASHEAR were the parents of Basil, William, Ann, Elizabeth, Mary, Robert, Samuel, Otho, John, and Clara.
Samuel BRASHEAR, born 1696, son of Samuel, married his cousin Elizabeth. born 1701 daughter of Benjamin BRASHEAR. Their children: Samuel, born 1721; Joseph 1722; Mary 1720, Morris 1724, Ann 1729, Benjamin 1727, Ignatius, called 'Nace,” 1735 (he married Frances EDMONSTON CATRYL), Jeremiah 1731, Turner. Ruth (married Thomas BROWN) Elizabeth (married Basil BROWN), Otho (married Ruth BROWN).
Joseph, son of Samuel and Elizabeth, with his son Marsham, were the first Brashears in Kentucky. Later Ignatius BRASHEA, brother br Joseph, with his family also settled in Kentucky. His children were Mary born 1760, Elizabeth 1761; Ann 1763, Thomas C. 1764, Samuel 1766, Ignatius 1768, Robert 1769, Archibald Edmonton 1771, Levi 1773, Walter 1776 (died 1860, married, 1802, Margaret BARR; he was a noted physician and surgeon and lived at Bardstown), Joseph 1718, Dennis 1780, Ruth 1782 (married ?? HACKLEY). In 1784 Ignatius and his family settled on Salt River near Shephordsville and engaged in farming and manufacturing salt. His daughter, Elizabeth married Christian CREPPS, Who was killed by Indians. They were ancestors of J. C. W. BECKHAM, twice Governor of Kentucky. Elizabeth BRASHEAR CREPPS married again in 1793, to Samuel CROW.
He died at or near Shepherdsville in 1819, and his wife in 1826. Their children: Nancy born 1794 (died in infancy), Ann 1726 (sic in newspaper; line skipped) sil b born 1796 (married Maria BLANDFORD in 1820), Samuel 1798 (married, 1820, Catherine daughter of Peter and Martha WATERS SMITH; he became a physician, and his son, W. H. CROW, was also a doctor), Matilda 1799 (died in infancy), Eliza 1800-1816, Maria 1802.
Samuel CROW Sr.'s brother, Basil C., married, 1796, Nancy BRASHEAR. He represented Bullitt County in the Legislature in 1801. Samuel and Basil CROW Jr., were sons of Basil C. and Nancy CROW, ana there were perhaps other children; Basil CROW Jr. married Maxine BRASHEAR, a daughter of Beall BRASHEAR.
Mrs Noe HULL, Kirksville, Missouri writes that Dr. W. H. CROW, son of Dr. Samuel CROW and Catherine WATERS SMITH, emigrated from Kentucky to Monroe County, Mo., where he became a successful pioneer physician.
