Annotated Bullitt County 1850 Census

We continue the Bullitt County 1850 census written by Mrs. W. V. Mathis, Wallace A. McKay and W. C. Barrickman. Betty Darnell shared this in The Pioneer News on 15 Apr 1991.

These records have been briefly compared to images of the census pages, and occasional additions or corrections have been made. Those changes we consider significant are noted with red print. Also, the census dwelling house number and family number according to visitation has been added, like this: [1/1].

In this week's article the writers focused on the Lee family first.

6 January 1950

"The Lee family," Four sons of John and Elizabeth THOMPSON LEE of Virginia: John, Charles, William, and Peter (or Philip?), were in Nelson County by 1780. Zachariah MARAMAN, who came from Maryland to Kentucky about 1785, and Atkinson HILL, 1655-1824, probably from Virginia, were friends and companions of the LEES. Atkinson HILL married Bettie GOODIN OF Goodin's Station,on the Rolling Fork of Salt River, and several of their daughters married MARAMAN, LEE, and TROUTMAN husbands. Atkinson HILL died at Bardstown in 1824, and is buried on the John TROUTMAN farm near the highway between Bardstown and Boston.
