Article I. Name and Mission
Section 1. The Society shall be known as the Bullitt County Genealogical Society, Inc. In second references, it may be referred to as “the Society.” The Bullitt County History Museum (“the Museum”), located in the Bullitt County Courthouse, is a service of the Bullitt County Genealogical Society, and maintains the archives of the Society.
Section 2. The mission of the Society and of the Museum is to collect, preserve, perpetuate, and publish genealogical history relative to Bullitt County and surrounding counties of Kentucky, and to stimulate interest in the study of genealogy and history in this area through educational, civic, and patriotic endeavors.
Article II. Finances
The Society/Museum shall use its funds to accomplish the objectives and purposes of the Society and of the Museum. The operation of the Society/Museum shall be conducted as an exempt organization according to 501(c)(3) of the applicable Internal Revenue Code. Any requested review of financial reports shall be conducted by two persons not presently serving as officers.
Article III. Officers and Directors
Section 1. The elected officers of the Society shall be a president, a vice-president, a secretary, and a treasurer. Three directors are to be appointed by the president. The board is comprised of the elected officers and the directors. An employed executive director of the Museum will be decided by the Society Officers and Directors.
Section 2. Officers and directors serve three-year terms.
Section 3. Duties of Officers -
The president is the spokesperson for the Society. Duties include leadership at general meetings and board meetings, appointing committee chairpersons, and signing contracts pertaining to the Society.
The vice-president steps in and assists the president as needed. The vice-president shall complete the unexpired term of the president in the event the president's office becomes vacant.
The secretary keeps the minutes of the meetings, and provides a copy of the minutes to the Society archives at the Bullitt County History Museum.
The Treasurer has supervision over the funds, receipts, and disbursements of the Society and of the Museum, and provides a copy of the monthly report to the Society archives at the Bullitt County History
Museum. The treasurer picks up all mail from the post office, keeps a log of each piece of mail received and the date received, and provides a copy of the log to the Society archives at the Museum.
Directors lead or contribute to committees established by the board to carry out the mission of the Society, and advise the officers.
Article IV. Meetings
The board shall meet quarterly in a manner to be organized by the president.
Article V. Elections
Previous to the end of the three-year terms of officers and directors, the President, with approval by the Board, shall appoint a nominating committee of a chair and two other members to submit a slate of nominees. The Committee is to ensure that candidates are eligible and willing to serve. Elections are held virtually. The Committee keeps clear records, reports nominees and election results at the annual meeting.
Article VI. Amendments
These bylaws may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) majority of the board, provided said amendment has been presented at a previous meeting, or distributed electronically.
Article VII. Dissolution
In the event of dissolution of the Society, the Museum will apply for a separate 501(c)3.
In the event that the Museum does not apply for a separate 501(c)3, the Society, with the assistance of the Museum, commits to directing the remaining assets to charitable organizations chosen by a majority vote of the board.

The Bullitt County History Museum, a service of the Bullitt County Genealogical Society, is located in the county courthouse at 300 South Buckman Street (Highway 61) in Shepherdsville, Kentucky. The museum, along with its research room, is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Saturday appointments are available by calling 502-921-0161 during our regular weekday hours. Admission is free. The museum, as part of the Bullitt County Genealogical Society, is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization and is classified as a 509(a)2 public charity.
