Nicholas R. Brashear's 62 Acre Tract

On 17 Sep 1798, James Ferry, an assistant to County Surveyor James Shanks, surveyed a small tract in the bend of Floyd's Fork for Benjamin Pope who then signed it over to Nicholas R. Brashear, as shown below.


Survey

Surveyed for Benjamin Pope, assignee of James Withers, 62 acres of land in Bullitt County by virtue of a treasury warrant No. 19900 and part of an entry of 1000 acres entered June the 7th 1785 on the north side of Salt River and the east side of Floyd's Fork, beginning at a poplar, corner to Joseph Brooks, thence with a line of James Garrard N 35° W 118 poles to a box elder on the east bank of Floyd's Fork, thence down said fork with the meanders thereof 184 poles to a maple on the east bank thereof, thence S 35° W 120 poles to the beginning. September 17th 1798. James Ferry, assistant to James Shanks, S.B.C.

For value received, I do hereby assign all my right and title to the within survey to Nicholas R. Brashear, and request that a patent therefor may be issued in his name. September 17th 1798. (signed) Ben Pope

Deed

James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, to all to whom these presents shall come, greeting. Know ye that by virtue and in consideration of land office treasury warrant number 19900 there is granted by the said Commonwealth unto Nicholas R. Brashear, assignee of Benjamin Pope, a certain tract or parcel of land containing 62 acres by survey bearing date the 17th day of September 1798, lying and being in Bullitt County on the south [should be north] side of Salt River and on the east side of Floyd's Fork and bounded as followeth, to wit.

Beginning at a poplar, corner to Joseph Brooks, thence with a line of James Garrard N 35° W 118 poles to a box elder on the east bank of Floyd's Fork, thence down said fork with the meanders thereof 184 poles to a maple on the east bank thereof, thence S 35° W 120 poles to the beginning with its appurtenances.

To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of land with its appurtenances to the said Nicholas R. Brashears and his heirs forever. In witness whereof the said James Garrard Esquire, Governor of the Commonwealth of Kentucky, hath hereunto set his hand and caused the seal of the said Commonwealth to be affixed at Frankfort on the 20th day of April in the year of our Lord 1799, and of the Commonwealth.
